A PROFILE OF SEGR

The SEGR MUSIC site was set up not on impulse but as the result of a desire to publish my interests in musical composition on the WWW. In this I have not been entirely lacking in encouragement, particularly from friends and fellow-enthusiasts interested in musical settings of Thomas Hardy's poetry.
Reflecting my own experience of singing (mainly as a church and cathedral chorister) and as a pianist (though not quite, I hasten to add, of classical concert-giving calibre) the combination of vocalist and pianist remains my chief interest at present and is responsible for the burst of serious song writing that has occupied much of my time since retiring from a career in research and teaching in science at university. A short listing of my recent songs will be found HERE A number of these songs and piano works were presented originally in music festivals and public concerts by myself and fellow music students.    More recently the songs, particularly, have been recorded and performed by professional artists.   Some of their recordings can be heard on this website.

A number of works by well-known composers and chosen for various reasons (some being favourites of long standing) are also included on the site under 'Miscellany'. Biographical notes and pictures accompany some of the titles, and particularly for my own songs, the poems or lyrical texts will also be found.
